The jobs featured on Glassdoor’s 2016 list have the highest overall job scores based on a combination of the number of job openings, salary, and career opportunities in each field.
Physician assistant landed the 7thspot with an overall job score of 4.6 on a 5.0 scale, while nurse practitioner took the 23rdspot with an overall score of 4.2.
According to Glassdoor, there are currently more job openings nationally for nurse practitioners (5624) than physician assistants (3364).
Nurse practitioners also have slightly higher median annual base salaries ($99,500) than physician assistants ($97,000), according to Glassdoor. However, physician assistant scored higher on career opportunities (3.5) than nurse practitioner (3.1).
Based on Glassdoor’s methodology, the best job in America for 2016 is data scientist, followed by tax manager, solutions architect, engagement manager, mobile developer, and HR manager, which all topped physician assistant.
Physician assistant had a better overall job score than product manager, software engineer, and audit manager. Nurse practitioner scored about the same as technical account manager, consultant, and construction superintendent, and it only beat out electrical engineer and software architect.
Of note, nurses took the top spot in a recent Gallup poll about the mosthonest and ethical professionalsin America.
